Why Your Joint Pain Isn’t Age, It’s Immobility
They told you it’s arthritis.
They said it’s your age. Wear and tear. It's Degenerative. Inevitable.
They gave you a prescription and sent you home.
Here’s what they didn’t tell you: Your joints don’t hurt because you’re old. Let me say that again… Your joints don’t hurt because you’re old. They hurt because you stopped moving them through their full range.
I’m 72. I teach movement every day. I guarantee you my joints feel better now than they did at 50.
Not because I’m special. Because I move.
Want to Know The Real Problem?
Your body adapts to what you do most. Sit in a chair 12 hours a day? Your hips tighten. Your shoulders round. Your spine compresses.
Those tissues shorten. They pull on joints. Joints get stuck in compromised positions.
That’s not arthritis. That’s immobility.
And immobility creates pain.
What Actually Works?
Contracted stretching. Not passive stretching where you hold a position and hope something changes.
Active engagement. You contract the muscle, then stretch it against resistance. You teach the tissue to lengthen while maintaining strength.
I avoided multiple surgeries in 2007 using this method. Shoulder, hip, knee, lower back—all predicted to need surgery. Every single one resolved through movement.
No operating room. No recovery time. No pills.
Just consistent, intelligent movement.
There is The Medical Blindspot
Doctors aren’t trained in movement. They’re trained in diagnosis and intervention.
You come in with joint pain, they order an X-ray. They see some degeneration (because you’re over 50 and everyone has some). They call it arthritis.
They never ask: How much do you move? What’s your range of motion? Are your tissues tight?
Becausehonestly, they don’t have a prescription for that. At least one they can charge for.
Age Is Not the Problem
I reversed Type 2 diabetes at 55. I’m stronger and more mobile at 72 than most 40-year-olds.
Not because I have good genes. Because I move every single day.
Your body doesn’t care how old you are. It cares what you ask it to do.
Stop asking it to sit still and deteriorate.
The Simple Truth is…
Movement is medicine. Not metaphorically. Literally.
Every joint has synovial fluid that lubricates it. That fluid only circulates when you move the joint through its full range.
Sit still? Fluid gets thick. Joint gets stiff. Pain shows up.
Move consistently? Fluid flows. Joint stays healthy. Pain disappears.
It’s not complicated.
It’s just not profitable.
So What You Can Do Today
Stand up right now. Roll your shoulders back ten times. Squat down as far as you can and hold it for 30 seconds. Raise your arms overhead and stretch.
Did anything feel tight? Restricted? Uncomfortable?
That’s not age. That’s your body telling you it needs movement.
Listen to it.
The Choice?
You can accept the diagnosis. Take the pills. Wait for your next surgery.
Or you can move.
Every single day. Through full range. With intention.
I made that choice at 55. I’m still making it at 72.
Your joints aren’t broken. They’re just waiting for you to use them. So get out there and do it.
