Turning 72 Today Reminds Me, Age Doesn’t Matter When You Build the Life You Love
The secret isn’t luck or good genes, it’s creating a life you don’t need to escape from.
Today I turn 72. How in the world did that many years fly by?
If you had told me 18 years ago that I’d be moving better, feeling stronger, and living with more joy at 72 than I did at 54, I would have laughed, or maybe cried.
Back then I was broken and battered, staring down the barrel of seven different surgeries.
Some doctors even told me I’d end up in a wheelchair.
That was a scary future to look at.
But Peggy and I decided we weren’t going to accept that path.
We did our research. We tried new things. We built simple habits that healed us from the inside out.
The result?
I avoided every single one of those surgeries.
Fast forward to today, and instead of being stuck in pain or a chair, I’m starting my birthday the way I love best: teaching my morning stretch class, surrounded by people I absolutely adore. After that, I’ll have a private session or two. And you know what? That sounds like just another Monday, and that’s the beauty of it.
Because as part of my healing, I created a life where every day is a celebration.
I don’t need cake, balloons, or big events to feel special (though I’ll never turn down a good hug).
Every day I get to move, breathe, and share this message is a gift.
Here’s what I want you to hear:
You don’t have to accept being stiff, sore, or broken as the years go by.
You don’t have to resign yourself to a pile of prescriptions or surgeries.
With simple, consistent habits… movement, breath, good food, good sleep, resistance stretching… you can write a completely different story for yourself.
The years really do fly by. The question is, how do you want to feel as they do?
Stronger, happier, and more alive, or stuck, sore, and wishing for something different?
Start small.
Stretch. Walk. Breathe. Eat real food. Sleep well. Smile often.
These little habits add up, and before you know it, you’ll discover your own path to lifelong health and well-being.
And at 72, I can tell you… it’s worth it.

Happy birthday, Dave. I love these daily reminders. Enjoy your next trip around the sun ☀️ 🎂🎉🎊🥳
