They Said My Knees Were Bone-on-Bone. That Was 15 Years Ago.
The doctor showed me the X-ray. Pointed at my knees. Said the cartilage was gone.
“You’ll need surgery eventually. It’s just a matter of time.”
That was 17 years ago.
I’m still walking. Still moving. Still teaching. No surgery.
Here’s what that X-ray didn’t show: how strong the muscles around my knee were. How flexible. How I actually moved through space.
X-rays show you a snapshot. A single moment frozen in time. They don’t show potential.
I lost 100 pounds. Learned contracted stretching. Built strength that supported what the image said was broken.
The joint didn’t magically grow new cartilage. But the body around it got strong enough that it didn’t matter.
Doctors see the picture. You live in the body. Those are two completely different things.
They make money on surgery. Zero dollars on you figuring out how to move better.
I’m 72 now. Those “bone-on-bone” knees still carry me every single day.
What did a doctor tell you was permanent that you’ve never questioned?
