The One Thing You Can Always Control
“Feelings come and go like clouds in a windy sky. Conscious breathing is my anchor.” Thich Nhat Hanh
You can’t control what happens to you.
You can’t control how you feel in the moment.
You can always control your breath.
When I’m stressed, frustrated, or my mind won’t settle I always come back to my breath.
Not because it makes the feeling disappear.
Because it gives me something steady to hold onto while the feeling passes.
And it always passes.
That’s what most people don’t realize.
Emotions are temporary. They rise, peak, and fade.
But we panic when they show up.
We try to fight them off or push them down.
Your breath doesn’t fight anything.
It just anchors you while the storm moves through.
In Qigong, everything ties back to breath.
Every movement follows the inhale and exhale.
It’s not complicated.
It’s simply intentional.
Breathe in, breathe out.
That’s the practice.
When you can’t control your circumstances, control your breath.
When your feelings are overwhelming, anchor to your breath.
It’s the simplest tool you have. And it works every single time.
Do you use your breath to manage stress or big emotions?*
Or is this something you’ve never really thought about?
Tell me. I’m curious what grounds you when everything else feels chaotic.
