Last week a page showed up in my Facebook feed that looked exactly like CNN.
It promised to reverse type 2 diabetes in 21 days.
The doctor was real.
The story wasn’t.
Neither were the smiling grandmothers in the comments.
Everything on that page was designed for one person.
Someone who was scared.
Someone who was desperate.
Someone like I was nineteen years ago.
When I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, I was nearly one hundred pounds overweight.
I wanted good news.
I wanted someone to tell me there was a simple answer.
If that fake page had shown up in my feed back then...
I’d like to believe I would have recognized the scam.
The truth?
I’m not sure I would have.
Because desperation changes the way we think.
That’s what bothered me most.
Not the fake CNN page.
Not the fake doctor.
The desperation.
That desperation didn’t appear overnight.
It was built one doctor’s visit at a time.
“Take this.”
“Manage it.”
“We’ll see you in six months.”
No one talked much about changing my life.
Just managing my disease.
When you’ve been told your future is one long medical appointment...
A miracle starts sounding reasonable.
That’s exactly what scammers count on.
They don’t sell drops.
They sell hope.
The problem is...
Hope in a bottle usually ends with disappointment.
Real hope looks much less exciting.
It looks like changing what’s on your plate.
It looks like moving your body.
It looks like showing up tomorrow and doing it again.
Nineteen years ago, that’s the road I chose.
It wasn’t fast.
It wasn’t glamorous.
But it worked.
I lost ninety-eight pounds.
My type 2 diabetes disappeared.
I came off every medication.
Nineteen years later...
I’m still teaching.
Still moving.
Still living.
That’s what almost nobody wants to sell you.
Ordinary.
Because ordinary doesn’t make headlines.
But ordinary changes lives.
So the next time a miracle shows up in your feed...
Pause.
Take a breath.
Pay attention.
Ask yourself one question.
Is this selling me hope... or helping me build it?
There’s a big difference.
One disappears when the bottle is empty.
The other stays with you for the rest of your life.
Don’t give your hope to a bottle.
Don’t surrender it to a prescription pad either.
Your body has been talking to you for a long time.
Maybe it’s time to start listening.
Pay attention. Keep moving. Stay curious.
