In this episode of Peggy’s Pearls, Peggy shows you how to find the version of a pose that actually feels good for your body. No forcing, no grimacing — just simple adjustments and props that make the position love you back.
TRANSCRIPT:
Hi. Just wanted to share a little something with you and it came up in class this past week and I thought it was a good thing to, to share and to, to put in our training because so many times in class, um, it’s time for a pose. And maybe this is the pose. Maybe this is what I’ve said. You know, sitting cross-legged, well sitting cross-legged can look lots of different ways, but this might not be the most comfortable place for you.
Maybe, you know, one of your legs is up here and maybe you can’t get it down here. Maybe, you know, whatever it is. Maybe this is not comfortable for you. Maybe you should be out here. Maybe you should grab some props. And put a bolster right there or maybe put a bolster directly underneath both and allow this to happen.
But nonetheless, you are making the pose become what you can do. So we example, if this is the pose and we’re going to be going out into a forward fold. It might not be comfortable for you to do that. Maybe you are more comfortable here or maybe here, wherever. Allow your body to go there. I don’t want you to just be miserable and be cre, you know, clenching your teeth, waiting for this pose to be over so that you can go to the next thing and hopefully it won’t be as painful.
Make each pose work for you. Don’t you know we are here as guides. We are not here to force you into submission into a POS pose that your body’s not happy to be in. So find a position that it is happy to be in and do whatever it is that we’ve called. And so in time maybe you’ll be able to bring it maybe to here or you know, find some pose along the way that is more comfortable for you.
But don’t force. Feel free to use props. Feel free to use the chair. I mean, feel free to, you know, position yourself in such a way that your body is happy with the pose. You don’t want you to be cringing when a specific pose comes up because you hate it so much because your body is just not ready for it.
Be user friendly. If you want some guidance, feel free to text, call, email, what have you, um, catch us before or after class. Um, and, you know, we’ll be happy to spend a little bit of time with you and, and figure out what would work best for you A lot of times in class or especially if you’re online, kind of hard to accomplish it.
Um, so depending upon what your situation is. Communicate with us, let us know and we’ll be happy to work with you to make each one of these poses a lot more comfortable for you. So that being said, have a great day. Move well, stay healthy, be happy with Rivers End. Thanks so much. Bye bye.
