Let Them Be Excited
Here’s something I’ve learned that I wish I'd figured out years ago…
Let people be.
Let them mispronounce a word. Let them talk too much about a show they love. Let them get excited about something you don’t understand.
You don’t have to get it. You just have to be kind.
I spent too many years thinking I had to correct everything. Fix everything. Have an opinion about everything.
Now when someone lights up telling me about their garden, or their grandkid’s soccer team, or some hobby I know nothing about - I just listen.
Not because I suddenly care about hydroponics or youth sports.
Because I care about them.
And honestly? Their energy is contagious. Their joy is real. And we could all use more of that.
When I talk about reversing my diabetes or the stretching routine that saved me from surgery, some people’s eyes glaze over. I can see it.
But the ones who let me be excited anyway? Those are my people.
We’re all walking around with things that matter to us. Things that light us up. Things nobody else quite understands.
The older I get, the more I realize life’s too short to dim someone else’s light just because it’s not shining on something I care about.
Let them be wrong about the small stuff. Let them be passionate about the weird stuff.
Just be kind.
That’s it. That’s the whole thing.
What’s something you’re excited about that other people don’t really get?
Or maybe there’s someone in your life who talks about something you don’t understand, but you love their energy anyway.
Tell me about it. I want to know what lights you up.
